NFPA 2113

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), established in 1896, is an international nonprofit organization working to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education.

The world's leading advocate of fire prevention and an authoritative source on public safety, NFPA has developed, published, and disseminated more than 300 consensus codes and standards intended to minimize the possibility and effects of fire and other risks.

About NFPA 2113
NFPA 2113: Standard on Selection, Care, Use, and Maintenance of Flame-Resistant Garments for Protection of Industrial Personnel Against Flash Fire, 2007 Edition, provides minimum requirements for the selection, care, use, and maintenance of flame-resistant garments compliant with NFPA 2112 for use in areas at risk from flash fires. Follow the provisions in this document to promote correct selection of protective clothing, and reduce the risks caused by incorrect maintenance, contamination, or damage.

The 2007 edition features:

  • Expanded requirements for the hazard assessment that must be conducted for proper selection of flame-resistant garments. The new rules represent industry best practices for hazard analysis procedures.
  • Revised selection criteria based on strengthened design requirements
  • Updated definitions consistent with the NFPA® Glossary of Terms

NFPA 2113 and its companion document for garment manufacturers, NFPA 2112, are the first Standards developed for industrial flash fire protective garments in the United States.
